Bink 182’s “Neighborhood” Not Quite There

Do you remember when Blink 182’s last album came out? I sure do. Everyone thought it would be Blink’s last album ever; mass hysteria ensued. I was in Florida visiting my grandparents and I demanded that we go to the mall so I could buy the album. Since it was the first album I bought with the “explicit content” label and because my CD was a different color than everyone else’s back home I felt like a little bad ass buying it. You can imagine my thirteen-year-old-self rocking out with my CD player at an old person’s community. Ben Brondsky… click headline to Read More

Panic! at the Disco Comeback?

Panic! At the Disco is old news. When’s the last time anyone really heard of them? Sure, they released that record a few months ago, but all of their best music happened years ago. Plus, they are “whinny” alternative, says anyone with a music education. I stand with these people…usually. But with the release of their recent live session, I now beg to differ. This past Monday the 3rd of October, Panic! At the Disco released an ITunes live session – a few tracks only, granted – but enough to make anyone with enough fate believe in them and their… click headline to Read More

Motion City Soundtrack Rocked the Paradise

Throughout the whole summer I was pretty excited to come to BU. I was excited to learn, be on my own, and definitely to be in a city like Boston. One of my favorite things about big cities like Boston, NYC, and Chicago is the extensive music scene they all have. Coming from a small town in NY there weren’t many choices for people to check out unless they traveled down to NYC. Each week I would go on the different venues’ websites and checkout the bands they would have for September when I came to BU. So I was… click headline to Read More

New Pictures From Frankie Rose & Dirty Beaches Show!

Check out our new picture gallery from the Frankie Rose and Dirty Beaches at Brighton Music Hall in September! Read more about the show: Alex Hungtai from Dirty Beaches had no reservations about going all out from the very first song, drawing the crowd closer and closer to the stage with each song.  A solo project taken on the road with the help of his friends introduced some of his latest creations from a recent album “Badlands,” which highlights recurring themes in his nomadic life.  Dirty Beaches filled Brighton Music Hall with lo-fi, distortion-heavy sounds along with his passionate vocals. When Frankie Rose took stage, the pace… click headline to Read More

Hospital Blues on Left of the Dial

Hospital Blues, a kickin’ indie-punk rawk band from the hills of Central Pennsylvania, will be rocking out in studio on Friday at Left of the Dial. They’re a pretty new band. I was there when they had some of their first practices – they hadn’t decided a name yet; I gave The Hospital Blues my vote – and had the distinct honor to be at their first show at Treasure Island (a very nice house with very punk basement shows in Clarion, PA). They’ve got a sick sound, a sort of synthesis of the fortes of their respective members. Folk punk,… click headline to Read More

Allston Village Street Fair – Review

(this review was originally posted to AllstonPudding.com) From noon to six, the stretch of Harvard Avenue between Cambridge Street and Brighton Ave replaced its usual bumper-to-bumper traffic with food, music, and vigorous humanity. The fifth annual Allston Village Street Fair was a straight-up revelry, and there are more reasons than one as to why it was so righteous. But let me give you the low-down of the scene before I dig into the semantics of it all.

Graffiti6 and Oh Land Live at BU Central

By Samantha Tatro This past Saturday the 24th of September, Oh Land and her supporting act Graffiti6, performed at BU Central to a crowd of about 100 people. Although not many people know about the Danish singer-songwriter (whose name is pronounced with a long ‘a’, as opposed to just saying “land”) and her supporting British band, the fortunate few who took a chance and showed up were lucky: Graffiti6 and Oh Land surpassed everyone’s expectations. I’ll admit I didn’t originally plan on going to the concert. Before that Saturday, I had no clue who Oh Land was and I wasn’t… click headline to Read More

Rock & Roll with Sick of Sara!

“What are you gonna write about?” Katie of http://sickofsarah.com/ Sick of Sarah asked me in the bathroom after her band had just finished their sweet set. We had met earlier and I told her I would be writing up a review of the show. I didn’t have a good answer to her question, so I asked her for some help. “Rock and roll!” Rock and roll it is! Sick of Sarah are a five-piece pop/punk band out of Minneapolis who are now out promoting their second album, the excellent 2205. It’s fun, sexy, and in your face. Think old school… click headline to Read More
