Yeasayer is known for their psychedelic pop music and their latest album, Fragrant World, introduces a more syth-pop side to their sound.
But the Brooklyn-based band is also known for changing up their music. The past two albums, Odd Blood (2010) and All Hour Cymbals (2007) are very different and yet still compose the essence of Yeasayer’s synthesizer-induced electric pop feel.
The new album isn’t as ‘pop’ compared to Odd Blood, but it still has the pop hooks that fans are used to, accompanied with their take on what I would describe as 80’s electronic club music.
Their lyrics have always featured their societal commentary, including scientific references in songs like “Henrietta” based on Henrietta Lacks, who’s cells contributed to the discovery of “immortal cells” that helped transform modern day medicine.
“Reagan’s skeleton” and “Folk Hero Shtick” are two more songs off of Fragrant World that reference the political and egoistic realm of becoming a worldwide sensation.
Yeasayer revamped their style to be more engaged with the world and show their dedication for playing music strictly for the sake of playing music. They’re coming to the House of Blues on Wednesday, November 7. The show starts at 8 pm and tickets start at $25.
