Crystal Castles at House of Blues (10/6)

October sixth at the House of Blues was quite the show. Crystal Castles was scheduled to play with multiple openers including, Plore Weekend X, Cite, Chad Jack, Pictureplane, and the much anticipated, Health, who were featured in Crystal Castles’ original hit, ‘Crimewave’. Unfortunately I missed the other openers, and to my dismay Crystal Castles played the song ‘Crimewave’ without the grungy synthetic disco beat of Health. Other than that the show was up to snuff and surpassed all my expectations.

Alice Glass delivered the audience exactly what they come to see; she crowd surfed, she crawled on (and off) stage and even spat Jack Daniels on her loving fans. Talk about fun.

The low-res progressive electronica duo captured the hearts and minds of the people in the House of Blues that faithful October night, the entire venue was captivated by her outrageous antics of stage decorum. They played classic tracks such as ‘Celestia’, ‘Courtship Dating’, ‘Not in Love’, ‘Black Panther’, and ‘Crimewave’, but also played songs on there forthcoming third LP on the (III) album that’s set to drop November 5. One new song in particular they played was ‘Wrath of God’, which is distinctly different from their other albums. ‘Wrath of God’ puts more emphasis on Alice Glass’ lyrics and not as much keyboards and synths as a Crystal Castles fan is used to.

This was my fourth time seeing Crystal Castles, and throughout all the times I’ve seen them, Alice Glass is the most committed artist I’ve ever experienced to keep the show going. Whether she has a broken arm, busted ankle or is too intoxicated to practically function, she gets up on the stage with a crutch in one hand and a bottle of Jack in the other, and gives you a show that you will never, ever forget.
