Yeasayer Bring Their Psych-Pop to House of Blues This Week

Yeasayer is known for their psychedelic pop music and their latest album, Fragrant World, introduces a more syth-pop side to their sound. But the Brooklyn-based band is also known for changing up their music. The past two albums, Odd Blood (2010) and All Hour Cymbals (2007) are very different and yet still compose the essence of Yeasayer’s synthesizer-induced electric pop feel. The new album isn’t as ‘pop’ compared to Odd Blood, but it still has the pop hooks that fans are used to, accompanied with their take on what I would describe as 80’s electronic club music. Their lyrics have… click headline to Read More

Kimbra (10/24)

It is becoming increasingly rare that pop music is perceived as something more than tunes you can move your feet to. With the advent of the internet music generation, we see more and more music that is taken to serve some utility. Be it something you engage with intellectually, something you “trip out” to, or simply something for dancing, it would seem that we have music for every conceivable time and place. So when an artist comes along and puts out something that refuses to be singularly utilized, it is important that we pay attention to it. The Royale was… click headline to Read More

GZA performing Liquid Swords (10/19)

It’s been 17 years since GZA’s Liquid Swords was released, solidifying the legendary status of the Wu-Tang Clan as one of the greatest hip-hop collectives of all time. This weekend GZA represented The Clan at the paradise, and showed us that 17 years is not long enough for their glory to fade. The night started off with an interesting set from Bear Hands, an up and coming indie band from Brooklyn. Given that the audience was predominantly college kids and 20-something nostalgia chasers, the decision to put an indie band in the line-up wasn’t as far-fetched as one would think…. click headline to Read More

Wombats! (10/19)

When you’re going to go see a band whose entire discography is represented in your YouTube “Favorite” playlist in the form of live videos dating back to 2008, you tend to get excited when the date on those tickets finally matches the calendar’s. Having said that, believe me when I say that Thursday night at the Paradise was a gloriously happy night for everybody. The Wombats, those effervescently hilarious Brit-pop rockers from Liverpool, England, put on a spectacle of a show that was so violently, righteously great that my new Facebook profile picture with drummer Dan Haggis now reads, “This… click headline to Read More

The Front Bottoms @ T.T. the Bears (10/18)

All of Fitchburg came to see The Front Bottoms Thursday night at T.T. the Bears in Cambridge. Or at least that’s what some kid said to the drummer, Matt Uychich, outside the venue before the show. The crowd was young, rowdy, and so in love with The Front Bottoms. And did I mention they weren’t even headlining this show? It didn’t matter. Being in the middle of the lineup made all the energy magnetize to their performance. The show sold out earlier that afternoon and there were people outside practically trying to sell their souls for access to The Front… click headline to Read More
