This past weekend was probably the nerdiest weekend of the year. Anime Boston, a Japanese comic book convention, and PAX East, a video game convention, were at the Hynes and Boston Convention Centers, respectively. PAX always features the best and nerdiest in video game culture, including the musicians that celebrate it. Driftless Pony Club is a band from Chicago, IL, who really broke out when the guitarist and singer, Craig Benzine, started talking about his band in his popular YouTube videos on his channel, WheezyWaiter (which has over 380,000 subscribers). Maybe I should have been more hesitant when I planned to attend the A Great Big Pile of Leaves, Mansions, and Young Statues concert at the Middle East Club Upstairs on April Fool’s Day, but all the bands showed up, and then some.
